February is Heart Health Month and we’re spreading awareness by giving you some food options that your heart will love. While heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., it’s also one of the most preventable. Eating nutritious foods such as the ones listed below is just one of the many ways you can fight heart disease.
Whole Grains
Incorporating whole grains into each meal is simple. Swap out your white rice for brown rice, eat oatmeal instead of sugary cereal and use quinoa as your source of plant-based protein every so often. Here are other forms of whole grains you can add to your meals:
- Whole wheat bread

- Corn
Leafy Green Vegetables

- Kale
- Spinach
- Cabbage
- Collard Greens
Berries
Not only are berries rich in antioxidants which protects against heart disease, but they also help control blood pressure. Have some berries as an afternoon snack or make a berry-filled dessert. Some types of berries you can try include:
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Blackberries
Other Foods
The list doesn’t stop here. There are plenty of other options that allow you to have a heart-healthy diet for every meal.
- Salmon
- Green tea
- Avocados
- Dark chocolate
- Walnuts and almonds

What you fuel your body with has a big impact on your heart, so it’s up to you to decide if that impact will be positive or negative.
